Current Projects at K4JA

Paul always has a lot of projects going on.
It is interesting to see which one he is working on!

Put up a new 40M tower and antennas
The 40M tower came crashing down due to Tropical Storm Isabel. More details available here. Paul is trying to determine what to put in its place. He's currently thinking about a 3-high stack of full-size 3-element 40M yagis, stretching up to 200 feet.
To be completed Spring 2004?
Beverages
No receive antennas were used in 2002-2003 season. Will try to fight dense woods to locate a phased array to EU in Fall 2003. (Note: phased pennants or Beverages still thinking woods is tuff to work in especially in the summer heat, Bugs and poison ivy etc). The hurricane ruined the 40M tower and antennas, pushing this project to the back burner.
To be completed Fall 2004
40M Full-size 4 element multiplier antenna
Build full-size 4-element 40M yagi and put at 140 feet. Will be used in place of Cushcraft 2-el.
Completed September 2003
80M Full-size 9 element circle array
A 9-element array was constructed and erected. This antenna was designed by John Brosnahan, W0UN and featured in the ON4UN Low Band DXing book. K9DX also helped Paul out, as he previously built a 160M 9-circle. Gain is good, but still working on Front-to-Back. K9DX came out to help and greatly improved the F/B.
Completed Fall 2003
Station Automation
Added 3rd Acom 2000A and introduce MO3R switching (Muti-OP-3-Radio). This will allow any one of three radio's on any band, any antenna.
Completed Fall 2003
RF Switching
Chad, WE9V, is designing a new switching system. It will control all the switching combos for the main antenna system for each band. In addition, we will be able to select from the Main antenna system, or two alternative antennas. Also have the ability to select any combination of the three (main, alt 1, alt 2). One controller and one RF switch per band...lots of work.
Completed October 2001.
South America fixed tower
A 130 foot fixed tower with fixed monobanders for 10, 15, and two for 20M. The top 20M is rotatable. The 10 and 15M yagis will be fixed towards South America.
Completed Sept 2001
80 meter four square
